Truein offers a facial recognition-based time and attendance system designed for distributed or multi-site construction teams.
Photo-verified check-ins prevent buddy punching, while both mobile and kiosk-style time tracking offer offline capability. Supervisors can manage attendance across multiple locations from one dashboard and use geofencing to prevent unauthorized clock-ins.
The platform also automates shift scheduling, overtime calculations, and compliance tracking, helping construction firms stay audit-ready.
We particularly like the custom policies feature that allows admins to set working hours, rest breaks, and time limits. Real-time reports also give managers clear visibility into attendance patterns and workforce utilization.
On the downside, Truein doesn’t include full project management or costing tools. However, for pure time tracking and attendance control, we’d say it’s a strong choice for construction teams.
“Managing attendance and workforce planning used to be a cumbersome process for us, but Truein has completely changed that. The app is intuitive and easy to use, and it has improved our overall productivity. Highly recommend it to others.”
“Because the technology is newer and might feel intrusive, or because users aren’t used to the quick/camera-based attendance, there may be user resistance or learning curve issues.”

ClockShark offers one-tap time tracking from its mobile application, plus crew clocking and a kiosk option (with facial recognition). Time entries are easily assigned to client projects, and the app allows task-switching for those working on multiple projects throughout the day.
Geo-fencing and GPS tracking provide real-time data on each worker’s whereabouts, allowing leaders to better understand productivity and how time is spent.
Although not available via their mobile app, the desktop reporting feature is detailed, with granular insights into team activity.
The app also comes with crew scheduling, a time off tool, and job costing. We also highly rate the in-depth CRM tools to keep client information detailed and up-to-date, including the built-in conversations feature that allows users to discuss client work.
“Clockshark is a great time-tracking software. We switched from a different software due to multiple issues. With Clockshark, jobs, tasks, and employees are all easily added. There is GPS tracking to ensure that employees are clocking in at the correct time and at the correct job. PTO policies and requests and easily managed.”
“I would like to see more custom settings for overtime hours per week/per pay period. It would be nice to be able to set overtime hours per provincial regulations and have a banked hours option for each employee. I also noticed the automatic break function is a little glitchy. When it is turned on, and the employee clocks out for their break, sometimes the system will give them a double break. Then I need to go adjust it manually.”

SmartBarrel offers a complete solution for construction time tracking, attendance, and project management
Construction teams can either use the apps or kiosk mode to track time. Crews with 10+ workers also have the option to add solar-powered, portable time clock stations (all of which can work offline).
Geo-fencing comes as standard, and the tool uses AI for facial recognition to clock in/out and prevent buddy punching. Timesheets are automatically generated according to clocking times and customized break and time-rounding rules.
Some notable other features include shift approval, job management, productivity tracking, access control, and even PPE verification (great for checking if workers are wearing the appropriate gear).
Although we wish the pricing were more transparent, this app is a top contender for large and multi-site work crews.
“A great experience and partnership so far. The team has provided top-notch customer service! From the beginning, there were great features that our team was looking for: geofencing, facial recognition, and accurate time stamps. Since then, they have added many more features and continue to add more. We have built a great relationship with the team and look forward to continuing with SmartBarrel.”
“I would say my least favorite thing is how new it is, although this comes with benefits as well. I just think it is lacking in some basic interface areas. The initial dashboard, I think, is too cluttered.”

Unlike heavy-duty tools built for hundreds of crew members, My Hours is designed for project-driven teams who need a lightweight yet precise method to track time and costs.
Workers can track in real-time using the app (which also works offline) and assign time entries to individual tasks, giving you a complete breakdown of who did what and when.
Flexible project pricing options allow you to align with client requirements, such as applying a flat fee across the whole job or using hourly rates per worker or task.
While My Hours doesn’t replace dedicated GPS or clocking systems, it excels in tracking labor costs and budgets, allowing construction teams to keep a firm eye on project profitability.
The reporting feature goes into granular depth to give precisely the metrics you need. Better yet, reporting can be performed via the mobile app from any location and emailed to clients in the moment.
These features, along with a streamlined invoicing tool, make My Hours perfect for small construction teams that want a complete yet simple solution.
“I like the ability to have different users and control settings for different user levels. Easy to generate reports with different filters. Easy web interface. Easy to add and edit Clients and their projects. Onboarding and implementing new staff is easy. Easy to enter hours daily. Ability to set a budget for individuals/clients / by type, etc. Fast customer service.”
“There are a lot of ways to organize your time logs by clients, projects, tags, and others, which takes a bit to get used to.”

Workyard is a mobile-first time and attendance, and job costing platform with auto-GPS tracking and geo-fenced boundaries.
We must say, we were particularly impressed with how the continuous tracking automatically assigns time entries to projects based on location and customized rules.
Workers can track from the mobile app, or supervisor-led time cards allow leaders to clock in the entire crew in one go. A kiosk (with facial recognition) also supports shared device time tracking and clocking. Plus, offline mode supports tracking in areas with poor coverage.
Tools are provided to set time limit rules, daily working hours, and breaks. And to enforce compliance further, timesheet approval workflows can be customized to include compliance questions that must be answered before sign-off.
Additional features for scheduling tasks and project costing, plus a smart form builder, make Workyard a solid option for construction crews.
“It makes time tracking simple for everyone. Even the crew members who are not very tech-friendly picked it up right away. They just open the app, tap twice, and they are done. I can see exactly how many hours went into each job and send invoices without double-checking everything. It really saves a lot of time on the admin side.”
“Lack of push notifications when tasks are assigned to you (only email notifications), and we would like to see notifications appear on our phones when people add to a checklist on a task.”

BusyBusy contains exactly what you’d expect from a construction-first time-tracking tool. App-based tracking, kiosk, crew check-in, it’s all there. Plus GPS tracking, geofencing, and team scheduling.
The equipment tracker is a standout feature, allowing teams to maintain GPS locations of all crew equipment and which job each item is currently assigned to. We also like the automatic clock-in/out reminders, so crew members don’t forget to track their time.
The app also allows you to configure custom overtime rules to fit with your local labor laws or internal overtime policies.
Daily project reports show a breakdown of time, work, and progress. Plys they include the ability to upload photos and videos as proof of job progression/completion, which is really handy when reporting to clients.
“It can be used anywhere. We have construction crews in the field, and it's great that they can use it wherever they are, and we can have real-time data without having to wait for the end of the week for paper timecards. It takes a lot of the burden off of our foremen and frees them up for more important work. Plus, their customer service is outstanding!”
“Limited reporting features. Their canned reports often provide either two little data, or too much data that their canned reports often provide either two little data, or too much data that then needs to be manipulated in Excel.”

Most of us associate QuickBooks with accounting software, but it actually has time tracking software for the construction industry, too.
It comes with an app for tracking, uploading photos, and approving timesheets, a clocking-in/out kiosk, and a shift and time off scheduler.
On the higher plan ($10 per user), you also gain access to project management features, such as project status tracking, estimates vs. actuals, and an activity feed to keep on top of workloads and progress. Geofencing is also available on this plan.
What we find appealing is that the app sits within the QuickBooks ecosystem, enabling seamless data transfer for accounting and payroll.
So, if your firm already uses QuickBooks for its finances, then it may be a no-brainer to also use its time tracking tools.
“QuickBooks Time is really easy for our employees to use. It seamlessly syncs with QuickBooks customers, service items, and custom fields to allow us to track time against not only customers, but the specific item and task at hand. It was really useful in the reporting capability.”
“I wish there were more management settings for allowing employees to have certain functions. Sometimes, when changing settings, we feel as though they don't always update/change for the user.”

If you’re just looking for a simple time tracking app, without any additional features, then ConstructionClock is probably the way to go.
The app will automatically clock workers in and out as they arrive at their location. Plus, time logs can be completed with photos, notes, and tasks as needed.
You also get basic tools to assign labor costs to hours, a shift scheduler, and straightforward reporting options.
The obvious drawback is that the app doesn’t come with project management tools. While ConstructionClock does have an integratable sister app (CompanyCam) with this capability, it will bump up the overall cost significantly.
This app definitely doesn’t offer enough for large construction sites, but it’s still a decent, basic tool for small work crews that don’t need fancy features.
“I loved that ConstructionClock was instantly impactful for my company. I was able to see the benefits of it right away. It kept things very organized and had all the important information easy to access. This makes it easy for me to see at a glance where I am with any particular job.”
“I don't really enjoy how the manually entered time works. If you have to edit or manually enter time, it makes things look a bit messy.”
With so many great apps on the market, it can be hard to pick the right fit for your business.
To help decide, think about the following:
For construction, there are a couple of “bare minimums” that we feel are essential. So, at the very least, your chosen app should include:
Other features like GPS tracking, geofencing, and kiosks are extremely useful, but not necessarily essential. It all depends on the size of your crew and the type of job sites they work on.
There are literally hundreds of time tracking apps available, but not all of them carry features suitable for the construction industry.
To find the best of the best, we:
Disclaimer: Yes, we included My Hours on the list!
Why did we do that?
Although we recognize that My Hours won’t suit some construction firms, not all have the need for location tracking and clocking in. We firmly believe that My Hours presents a user-friendly and affordable solution to those who only need an app for detailed time, cost, and labor tracking.
